As a widow and a retiree, I might strike you as an older lady with dyed helmet hair and a sad expression. But that’s not me and likely not you either (or you wouldn’t have found this blog). I have gone through a lot as has everyone, especially as you figure out who you want to be for the next 20 years. What I hope to bring to this is some humor and quirkiness alongside some solid lessons from lots of ups and downs. I’d also like to bring you on this journey with me so we can take on the bumps and glides together in almost real time. Like what I tried to do this week in a dance class and what happened (such as there were no partners for me and I stood in the middle of the floor like it was the school gym in 1972).
I will be talking about singledom but also taking you on the online dating adventure. I will talk about friendships and how to find the most meaningful ones–and how that is different than what it was in our working and married years. And yes, I will talk about mental health, physical energy and even beauty because we do still want at least to feel beautiful.
While I specialize in widowhood, this will speak to divorcees too, especially retired ones. We share a lot–so much change to navigate, so much questioning about whether we matter and to whom, so much empty time to fill up even if that’s just before bed or first thing in the morning. We want to have no regrets. We don’t want to waste any time fretting over what could have been. I know this is a tall order but I know it’s worth all the effort. I hope you agree.
